Description
Round the Great Bloom's mouth rise eight tentacles, feeling about, curling over at their tips. Down in its realm they come up out of the green round the islands like towers, each as wide as a hill at the root, curling over far above you. Every light in the Bloom beats with its heart, the veins in the tentacles too.
When you fall
Fall off an island in the Bloom and a tentacle whips up out of the green after you. Since 1.27.2 it comes straight up out of the Bloom's throat under you, twenty blocks thick. It coils round you and drags you back through the air and down into its mouth. Anything else that falls goes the same way.
Caught, your sight closes in red and shakes, you hear your bones creak in its grip and your breath forced out of you, slime and blood trail off you, and over its mouth its teeth close in over your sight from all round, ring by ring, until there is nothing. Since 1.38 you go down its throat alive, into its stomach.
Chat: "Something huge is reaching up out of the green for you..." then "It has you."
When the Binding breaks
Touch the Binding twice and the Great Bloom goes mad. Its tentacles come up out of the green round the Binding's island (out of its throat, since 1.27.2), over the edge, and take hold. You have ten seconds. Then they pull the whole island down its throat, rift and all, and take anyone left out there one by one.
Round the risen Bloom
The Bloom that rises through the glasshouse reaches for anything within about 26 blocks, players first. The changed Bloom reaches for anything within ninety, and when it's hungry it comes up out of the ground under anyone out on its petals: cracks first, then its tentacles, one where you'll be if you keep going.
When you carry the Rosemont Device toward it, its roots come up after you: green cracks open under your feet, and two seconds later a tendril bursts out that whips, holds and infects whatever it catches ("Something in the ground has you.").
Over the ledge
During the launch, the colossal Bloom's tentacles rise up round the ledge and hang over it, trembling, held back. The Watcher is holding them.
don't look at them. i've got them. i can't hold them long.
After the Device goes off, the tentacles wither black. After the Omni Ray, they're gone, vaporized with its mouth and throat.
The great flower's tendril
The great flower under the dome, before any of this, has a single tendril of its own. It fastens on, slows you to a crawl and drags you in, drinking, and holds you at its throat and bites, again and again; after the third bite it spits you out. Three good hits tear the tendril and free you ("It has you! Hit it to tear yourself free!").
How to survive them
- Don't fall. In the Bloom, the bridges and edges are the danger, not the creatures.
- A tentacle that takes you drags you into the Bloom's mouth, and since 1.38 down into its stomach. Bring a weapon to cut your way out.
- When the Binding breaks, don't stop to watch. Ten seconds.
